Studio Location

Located conveniently in Babesa above the Thimphu TechPark, Yoga Yangchen's studio is easy to find.

Passing the main entrance of the Thimphu TechPark you keep driving straight (on Babesa Lam) until the first real junction (about a minute's drive) and then take a right to go further up on Babesa Lam. After less than a minute you arrive at the next junction where you take another right.

Within another minute, on your left-hand-side, you will find a 5-storied white building with a red painted roof and big solar panels on top. My studio is located in this building on the 4th floor. The studio door is marked clearly with a sign saying 'Yoga Yangchen'.

No. Flexible or not flexible, anyone can practice yoga. Yoga is a great way to increase your flexibility.

Can yoga help me lose weight?

Yes. A consistent practice and a particular type of yoga can help you lose weight.

Of course, healthy eating habits are equally important.

No. Physically fit or not, anyone can practice yoga. Yoga is a great way to increase your muscle strength and tone, and can also help you to reduce your weight.

What if I have pain, injury or physical condition?

People with fractured bones or who are suffering from acute infections or backache, or chronic ailments and disease such as stomach ulcer, tuberculosis, cardiac problems or hernia, and those recuperating from operations, should consult a doctor before taking classes. It also important for you to check in with the teacher before class if you have any concerns. Discussing this with your teacher helps to tailor a program for you to avoid further pain injury.

Can I do yoga if I am pregnant?

That depends. Many asanas are helpful during pregnancy, but it is important to check with a midwife or doctor prior to practicing. Do not strain. Do not use inverted asanas (weight bearing poses in neck) in the later stages of pregnancy.

How often should I practice?

Of course, something is better than nothing. So even if you only do 1 class a week you will experience some results. However, most Beginners tend to take 1-3 classes a week, giving their bodies some rest in between classes. Intermediates normally practice 3-5 times a week.

If possible, take of all your jewelry as well as your glasses (spectacles) before practice.

Should I eat or drink before class?

Drink enough water before coming to class, as being hydrated is really important.

Eat 3-4 hours before class preferably. Your stomach should be (almost) empty while doing asanas.

What type of food/diet is recommended for a yoga practitioner?

There are no special dietary rules for yoga practitioners, although it is recommended to eat natural food and in moderation.
