An external concentration practice in which one gazes steadily at some small object without blinking, while the eyelids are held slightly more open than usual. An often used object is a lit candle. This is why Trataka sometimes also is known as Candle Gazing.

Also known as yogic sleep, it is a state of conscious deep sleep. During this meditation process, the body is completely relaxed in shavasana (corpse pose), leaving the waking state, going through the dreaming state, and into the deep sleep state, yet remaining awake while the mind remains focused on the instructions of the teacher.
